Thinking of Moving to Portugal? I've Got You Covered
We immigrated to Portugal in 2023 and never looked back. I'm kicking off a 3-part series on EXACTLY how we did it.
You may have visited Portugal one time, many times, or not at all — yet know deep in your soul that it’s your future home.
Perhaps you want to move to the calming coastline of the Algarve…

Or the bustling metropolis of Lisbon…

Or the verdant, wine-soaked landscapes of Douro Valley.
Whatever your why, I’m guessing that those are only some of the many reasons (among political ones) that Portugal is calling your name.
You’re not alone.
Josh and I made the move in 2023 and it’s, hands down, the BEST decision we ever made. We love our city and appreciate the sense of peace and slower living that being here offers.
That said, we know from experience that the Portuguese immigration process — while fairly straightforward — can feel overwhelming when you’re in it.
I reconnected with a friend recently who is considering making the move too, which inspired me to detail the step-by-step process we followed to get here.
If moving to Portugal is on your bucket list then I’ve got you covered with a 3-part guide comprising of:
Residency visa (application submission and approval process)
Residency permit (interview and approval process)
Adjusting to life in Portugal (getting a cell phone plan, making new friends — all the things)
I’m spilling the tea. 🫖
💡NOTEWORTHY: The series serves as a helpful frame of reference specifically geared to aspiring American expats as it reflects U.S.-specific procedures we followed.
These posts are chock-full of great info but fair warning — it’s A LOT.
So, if moving here is something you’ve been chewing on then I hope it offers just the perspective you need (truthfully, I wish we had a guide like this when we embarked on the journey).
But I also understand that relocating isn’t for everyone.
Should you fall in this camp, don’t fret, my friend — I still have plenty of things in store for you; the editorial calendar is teeming with good stuff all summer long covering:
Travel Guides (like our most recent trip to Edinburgh)
Table Talks (so. many. good ones.)
Plus other surprises 😉
So keep those 👀 peeled.
