This Week: US visit, all things Portugal, plus a delicious recipe you just have to try.
Howdy, friends! 👋🏽
Josh and I are States-side visiting loved ones — and, naturally, reveling in all the creature comforts of home. 🍔🍕🥯
We were practically giddy with delight stepping foot inside a nearby Trader Joe’s — one suitcase has already been sacrificed in the name of snacks. Priorities.
Here’s a look at today’s itinerary:

Postcards from Portugal 🇵🇹
On the way to the US, Josh and I stopped in Lisbon for 48 hours to see my newlywed cousin who was passing through town with her husband.
To toast their recent nuptials, we shared a wonderful meal at Casa da Dizima — a hidden gem tucked outside of Lisbon in a 15th century building.
While modest from the exterior, the interior is simply✨breathtaking✨: rustic stone walls intersect with aged red brick covering the concave ceilings. Plus the flickering candlelight and portrait view of the Tagus River, make this restaurant, easily, one of the loveliest places I’ve ever dined in.
The menu celebrates Portuguese cuisine, where seasonal ingredients take centerstage. Think fresh scallops, perfectly grilled octopus, and seared turbot. Of course, we couldn’t skip the wine (vinho verde) or a decadent dessert — the Belgian dark chocolate mousse was sublime.
With unforgettable food, splendid views, and even better company, it was an evening we’ll always cherish. 🥂
The Love List 🩷
FOOD | Chai-spiced Granola & Berry Compote
To say that I am obsessed with oats would be an egregious understatement. Whether it’s oatmeal, baked oats, or granola, I am an equal opportunity oat-lover. 🥣
Nowadays, this granola recipe has been on heavy rotation.
Not one to follow directions to a T, I sometimes mix it up by swapping maple syrup for honey or pumpkin seeds for pecans, among many other things.
You really can’t go wrong with any variation you choose!
I especially love topping the granola off with my favorite homemade compote:
Take any berry (frozen or fresh — eyeball about 1-2 cups; my favorites to use are strawberries, blueberries, or blackberries) and place them in a small pot with a dash of water (about 3-5 tablespoons’ worth)
Cook them down on medium heat until the liquid becomes almost syrupy (add more water if/as needed)
Add about a 1 tablespoon of chia seeds as a thickener
And 1 teaspoon of coconut oil, which gives it an almost silky finish
Mix then let it cool for about 15 minutes (or more).
✨Et voilà!✨
You have a healthy berry compote. It’s equally delicious on a slice of bread with a little butter too. 😉
QUOTE | Passion = Purpose
Here’s the reminder we sometimes need to throw out the rule book, stop “shoulding” on ourselves, and do what lights our soul on fire. 🔥
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
With only more love,
Sam
